HOW IT WORKS

Keep your mind sharp over the summer.  Earn extra credit by participating in our summer reading programs.

OPTION A:

Grade 9-12 PWCS Summer Reading

The purpose of the PWCS Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading skills. Student participation in the program is voluntary. Students who choose to participate in the program are required to complete a minimum number of two books.

The documentation is to

include the name of the author, the title of the book, publishing information, an explanation of the topic or plot of the

book, and a parent or guardian statement that the student has completed the reading.  Click here to access the documentation form.

Students will receive an extra “A” (100) for each book completed, for a total of

two. The summer reading documentation will be submitted by the student to his or her language arts teacher by the end of the second week of school.

The titles listed on this page are suggestions for summer reading. Other books selected by the student with guidance from a parent/guardian and/or librarian may be used.

OPTION B:

PWC Public Library Summer Reading

Students also have the option to participate in the PWC Public Library System's Summer Reading Program.

This year's program runs from June 20- August 20, but registration opens June 1.  There are weekly awards and chances to win for two grand prize drawings.

Students who choose this option must still read the number of books designated for their grade level: a minimum of two books.

Students still earn bonus, as per the PWCS program, but they will submit their documentation from the PWC Public Library System instead.  Again, all documentation must be submitted by the student to his or her language arts teacher by the second week of school.

See the Prince William County Public Library System web site for more information, or view the promotional video here.
